Our New LAGUN BM 3 Expands Our CNC Milling Capabilities

Machining capacity is not determined solely by the size of a machine. Its travel ranges, structural stability, ability to orient the tool, and the way all these resources are integrated into the manufacturing strategy also play an important role.

MORE SPACE FOR MACHINING

With the addition of a LAGUN BM 3 CNC milling machine, Mecoxi is expanding its ability to work with larger components and machine geometries that require operations from different positions.

The new milling machine offers a longitudinal travel of 3,000 mm, a cross travel of 1,300 mm, and a vertical travel of 1,500 mm. Its 3,100 × 1,100 mm moving table provides a suitable working surface for large components and setups requiring additional clamping space.

These dimensions allow greater flexibility when planning the process, enable stable positioning of the clamping points, and reduce the limitations associated with the size or geometry of the component.

DIFFERENT ORIENTATIONS, A COMMON DATUM

One of the most significant features of the LAGUN BM 3 is its automatic universal head. The ability to orient the tool provides access to different faces and machining areas without having to reposition the component continuously.

Reducing the number of setup changes helps preserve the datums established at the beginning of the process and maintain the geometric relationship between surfaces, holes, bores, and machined planes.

The machine also features a HEIDENHAIN TNC 640 control for programming, managing, and monitoring the different operations.

STABILITY THROUGHOUT THE PROCESS

The BM 3 combines a fixed bed with a moving table and a structure designed to provide rigidity during machining. Its rolling guideways contribute to positioning accuracy and repeatability.

These features are particularly valuable when working with components whose volume, weight distribution, or number of operations requires detailed planning of the clamping setup, tooling, and machining sequence.

AN ADDITION THAT EXPANDS OUR CAPABILITIES

The new milling machine does not replace our existing way of working; it adds further possibilities to the resources available at Mecoxi.

Its incorporation allows us to select the most suitable machine and machining strategy for each component with greater precision. It also enables us to coordinate milling with other processes carried out at our facilities, including custom cutting, turning, metal fabrication, welding, and dimensional inspection.

In this way, we continue moving towards a more flexible manufacturing model, prepared to meet the requirements of industrial projects of different sizes and levels of complexity.
